AL Day 4: Cal, O’s pick up first win

Storm Davis

Storm Davis

Orioles 8, Tigers 2
Baltimore picked up their first win of the season, jumping all over Milt Wilcox.  Cal Ripken reached base three times and picked up his first homer of the season, while Storm Davis went 5 2/3 innings for the win. The top 4 batters in the O’s lineup reached base 13 of 20 times.  A tough start thus far for the 1-2 Tigers, of whom much is expected.

Twins 2, White Sox 1
Minnesota kept up a strong start, improving to 3-1 while handing Chicago (2-1) their first loss. Ken Schrom went the distance for the Twinkies, allowing one unearned run and not allowing a hit past thhe 2nd inning. Tom Brunansky’s solo homer in the 4th broke a 1-1 tie.

Indians 4, Brewers 1
No, they haven’t faced the stiffest competition, but the Indians are a perfect 3-0. Steve Comer went 8 1/3 innings for the win. Julio Franco had two more hits, including a double and RBI for the Tribe.

Blue Jays 1, Angels 0
Luis Leal tossed a shutout, leading the Blue Jays to a 3-1 start. Meanwhile, California’s lineup continued to struggle. They have now scored 3 runs in as many games.  George Bell hit a solo homer in the 4th inning for the only run of the game – it was his league-leading 3rd of the season.

Athletics 8, Rangers 5
Dwayne Murphy homered twice and Rickey Henderson swiped three bases with four base hits as Oakland defeated Texas in an AL West battle.

Mariners 3, Yankees 1
Jim Beattie went all 9, leading the M’s to their first win of the season. Seattle bunched 6 of it’s 7 hits into the span of 2 innings, leading to a trio of mid-game runs.
