Mike Scott continued to outperform his card, tossing a 5-hitter at home to guide the Houston Astros to a 3-0 shutout win over the Cincinnati Reds.
Jose Cruz roped an RBI triple in the 1st inning to spot Houston an early lead.
It would turn out to be the only run the ‘Stros would need.
Scott finished the day with just a pair of strikeouts, not allowing a Cincinnati base runner past 1st base from the 4th inning on.
Houston added two more runs in the 3rd inning, with six straight batters reaching base, highlighted by a two-RBI single by Kevin Bass.
Houston trails San Diego by 1 game in the NL West.
Cincinnati dropped their 4th straight and are now 3 games back in the division.
