NL Day 76: Carter Continues Hot Streak, Clobbers Cubs

Gary Carter

Expos 2, Cubs 1
Gary Carter was at it again with two more solo homers, giving him 4 of those in the last 2 games against Chicago. This time they held up as all the ‘Spos would need as Bill Gullickson (W 2-7) went the distance to outduel Dennis Eckersley (L 4-5) in his first start back from a brief injury. Chicago leads Philadelphia by a single game in the NL East and all indications are that this is going down to the wire.

Pirates 7, Giants 6
Jason Thompson went 4-for-4 with 3 doubles, scoring 3 runs and driving in a pair for a Pittsburgh win. Lee Mazzilli was 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI, while Jim Morrison was 3-for-4 with a double. Some nice batting lines for the Bucs, who ended the day with 15 hits.
