The first song to take over the top of the U.S. pop charts following the 1984 World Series was Billy Ocean’s “Caribbean Queen (No More Love on the Run)”.
It’s pretty much a masterpiece.
I had no idea, but it was recorded with different titles based on where in the world it was recorded.
So there is not only a “Caribbean Queen”, but also “European Queen” and “African Queen”.
It won a Grammy for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance.
“Caribbean/European/African Queen” was the first of four singles to chart from Billy Ocean’s fifth studio album, Suddenly, with “Loverboy” reaching #2 on the charts and “Suddenly” #4.
Less successful was “Mystery Lady” (#24), of which I honestly have absolutely recollection.
Now time for a little musical Choose Your Own Adventure…
