George Brett greeted Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Scott Sanderson with a solo homer right out of the 7th inning stretch, giving the Kansas City Royals a 1-0 lead.

Sanderson was relieved by Warren Brusstar, who retired three straight batters.

Bret Saberhagen worked out of a 1st and 3rd situation with one out in the top of the 7th, retiring Larry Bowa on a liner to second and Bob Dernier on a pop out to third.

Kansas City is now six outs away from winning the World Series, but they’ll face Chicago’s 2-3-4 hitters in the 8th.
